EARTH 10.0
I’m pleased to write this small blog as one of the memorable events in my university life with unforgettable personalities. I got this opportunity as an AIESECer.
EARTH 10.0 is an Incoming Global Volunteer Project by AIESEC Colombo South towards the SDG 13; Climate Action. In this winter peak the project was completed offering mother EARTH 2000 plants and with a lot of events for the well being of all the species living in the world.
Including the planning process, the whole project was carried out around 4 months from November 2020 to mid of April 2021. There were 11 members in our team and everyone worked hard to reach the highest impact from the project. Following are the sub-events that raised the project to this much impact.

Tree Planting Campaign for 2000 Plants
Tree Panting Campaign took place for two days in two school premises, Am/Dehiattakandiya MMV and Am/Sandunpura MV, 1500 plants and 500 plants respectively. It should be mentioned that the whole process was going on virtual platform communication methods even the land preparation, plant, and fertilizer delivery which was a matter to be self-satisfied. We were given the full support of the academic and non-academic staff of the two schools, parents, and students to make this event successful. It was a pleasure to see every student were enthusiastic about our arrival and the campaign, they were at school even in their holidays with early prepared compost bags with their hands with their parents.
School Awareness Sessions
We were fortunate enough to organize an awareness session for students under the permission of all the parties including school principal at Am/Dehiattakandiya MMV. More than 120 students participated in it. We were able to make them aware of the importance of protecting nature and methods they should follow as future leaders. The final message we gave them was, “If you change your attitude you can make a better world”.
Donations for Schools
After the sessions at schools, water hoses and garbage bins were donated for each school.
Environment Cleanup Events
There were two main cleanup events in the project, in Dehiattakandiya and Patna, Deniyaya. Under the guidance of the principle of Am/Dehiattakandiya MMV, we got a chance for a lake cleanup at Paragaswewa. The premises were fully destroyed with polythene, glass, and steel material stuff.
We were able to collect 8 garbage bags from the lake cleanup and handed over them to the Dehiattakandiya Municipal Council.
The other cleanup was at Patna, Deniyaya. It was carried out with AQUA which is another parallel project by AIESEC Colombo South. In this waterfall cleanup, 15+ garbage bags were collected. The garbage bags were handed over to Municipal Council of Deniyaya.
Webinar Episodes on Fighting Pollution
Webinar Episodes were on Fighting Pollution and we could reach more than 250 youngsters from universities around the country and overseas. There were two main webinars, with Assistant Lecturer of University of Kelaniya (BSc in Environment Conservation Management) Ms.Dilakshi Lekamge and Environmental Activist Michelle Dilhara. Interactive conversations, games for the audience and the prizes for the winners were included in the event.
Weekly challenges for children and youth categories
This is another interesting and most public-influenced event on the project. There were four weeks for the challenges and for each week one particular challenge was given. The challenges were as follows;
week 1: Plant a tree and send us a photo
week 2: Creativity Challenge
week 3: Quiz challenge
week 4: 4R Scavenger hunt
After more than 1000 overall participants winners were selected and offered with prizes.
